The course has open access, and is available to a person or coach over 16 years of age.
On completion of the course the competent coach will be able to:
- Coach basic individual techniques
- Understand how to develop and improve the Goalkeepers’ technique
- Plan and prepare progressive technical practices
- Maintain the health and safety of the players and other coaches
- Maintain the high standards of conduct to promote Association Football
The course is delivered over a three-day period involving tutor demonstrations, and a number of theory modules:
- Practical Demonstrations:
Specific Goalkeeping warm ups and cool downs
Footwork
The ‘Set’ position
General hand techniques
Diving saves – catching / deflecting / parrying
Dealing with 1 v 1
Dealing with crosses
Distribution – variation and technical principles
- Theory:
The key technical aspects of Goalkeeping
Long term player development
- Practical Assessment:
1 x 15 minute technical coaching session
It is highly recommended for a candidate to hold both The FA Emergency Aid Certificate and a Safeguarding Children in Football Certificate. The FA will not certify any candidate with the award until these two modules have been completed.
Candidates should have already completed the Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football prior to attending the Goalkeeping Coaching Level 1
