Goalkeeping Coaching Award (Level 1)

This is a new course for coaches who wish to learn the basic technical aspects of Goalkeeping. It is an ideal course for those coaches who have completed their Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football, and who wish to develop their technical expertise in Goalkeeping further.

The course has open access, and is available to a person or coach over 16 years of age.

On completion of the course the competent coach will be able to:

  • Coach basic individual techniques
  • Understand how to develop and improve the Goalkeepers’ technique
  • Plan and prepare progressive technical practices
  • Maintain the health and safety of the players and other coaches
  • Maintain the high standards of conduct to promote Association Football

The course is delivered over a three-day period involving tutor demonstrations, and a number of theory modules:

  • Practical Demonstrations:
Specific Goalkeeping warm ups and cool downs
    Footwork
    The ‘Set’ position
    General hand techniques
Diving saves – catching / deflecting / parrying
    Dealing with 1 v 1
    Dealing with crosses
Distribution – variation and technical principles
  • Theory:
The key technical aspects of Goalkeeping
    Long term player development
  • Practical Assessment:
    1 x 15 minute technical coaching session

It is highly recommended for a candidate to hold both The FA Emergency Aid Certificate and a Safeguarding Children in Football Certificate.  The FA will not certify any candidate with the award until these two modules have been completed.

Candidates should have already completed the Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football prior to attending the Goalkeeping Coaching Level 1
