Westmorland FA - developing football for everyone
Development - take your skills to the next level

Football Development Scheme

As there are no Professional Clubs in the county, Centres of Excellence or Academy’s cannot be easily accessed to gifted and talented local players. The WCFA therefore established its own ‘Centre of Excellence’ - the County Coaching Centre. WCFA hire a facility and deploy qualified coaches to work with the more talented players recommended by local clubs and schools at under 16 and 18 levels. The under 18’s would then become the County Team and represent them in The FA County Youth Cup and Association of Northern Counties Youth Competition.

What is the scheme trying to achieve?

The scheme will provide quality coaching to more talented youngsters in the county. The scheme also provides mentoring opportunities for some ‘talented’ local coaches. It also enables the WCFA to build better relationships with clubs and schools.

What has been the impact to date?
• Recommendations from clubs and schools every year providing excellent attendance at trials.
• 20+ players selected for under 16’s and under 18’s per year
• 1 MLD player recommended to trial for England U17 Disability Squad
• 6 Level 2 Coaches used to date
• 4 Level 1 Coaches used to date
• 1 Level 3 Coaches used to date
• Mentoring System in place for coaches
• Players taking ‘Good Practice’ back to their clubs and peers
• Squads used as part of In-Service Training for local Teachers, Coaches and Charter Standard Clubs
