Womens League Launch

8:42 AM, Friday, 26 September 08. Women and Girls

The Cumbria Women’s League launch took place on Wednesday 27 August with a friendly festival. Penrith FC kindly volunteered their facility to help kick off the first women’s competitive league in the county.

Players from across Cumbria took part in the event bringing teams involved in the league together to celebrate the beginning of the season. More than 60 women took part at Penrith FC. The matches were played in a friendly atmosphere with the floodlights allowing the games to go on well into the evening.

September 14th sees the start of the organised league with teams from Harraby Ladies (Carlisle), Dalton Ladies, Abbeytown, Penrith AFC Development, Kendal Town and Whitehaven Ladies Reserves taking part.

More teams are involved playing friendly fixtures for the coming season. Ingleton Ladies, Ambleside and Wattsfield (Kendal) will also be providing playing opportunities for players aged 16 and over.

Teams are still on the lookout for new players to join their squads. For further details please contact Helen Aitchison, Girls & Women’s Football Development Officer on 01539 730946 or Helen.Aitchison@WestmorlandFA.com
