Wednesday 1 October 2008 Corinthians v Kendal County The Lakeland Radio Stadium
Kendal County won the Invitation Trophy after comfortably sweeping aside Corinthians 5-2 at The Lakeland Radio Stadium.
County were the better team throughout the 90 minutes and thoroughly deserved their victory. The early stages of the first half were quite even with both sides creating some decent chances with Kendal County’s Steve Robinson blazing over the bar from just outside the penalty box and Corinthian’s Kris Clough seeing his free kick hit the cross bar.
However as the half wore on County started to take control, with Gary Taylor coming close on 2 separate occasions.
With County starting to take control of the half, they managed to open scoring when on the 30th minute Gary Taylor rose from a near post corner to head the ball into top right hand corner of the net.
At 1-0 County continued to dominate the half and a few minutes after the goal, County nearly made it 2-0 when Gary Baker’s free kick from the right saw the Corinthian’s keeper bundle it out for a corner.
From the resulting corner Gary Taylor nipped in between some slack Corinthian’s marking to head the ball home just before half time giving County a well deserved 2-0 half time lead.

The 2nd half pretty much followed the same trend as the first, and a minute into the half County got a 3rd goal when the Corinthians keeper bundled the ball from a corner leaving Michael Packham to slide the ball into the back of an empty net.
Corinthian’s misery was compounded 23 minutes into the 2nd half when Kris Clough was shown a red card for a bad challenge on a County player, after earlier being cautioned.
A minute after the sending off County then made it 4-0 when Mike Wilson scored a fine goal from just outside the box giving Kendal an unassailable advantage.
With the game over, Corinthian’s kept going and had a spell of pressure which saw them grab 2 goals both through Chris Vincent. His first goal came from the penalty spot after the referee saw a hand ball, and despite having to retake the penalty he coolly fired past the County keeper. For his 2nd goal he unleashed a curling shot to the right hand side of the goal which rebounded off the underside of the post and into the back of the net.
And it could have been 4-3 when Chris Vincent saw his goal ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper.
However County ended Corinthian’s hopes of a comeback 5 minutes from time when Gary Baker struck a free kick into the back of the net giving County’s 5th goal of the evening.
