Kendal United FC achieves FA Community Award

2:38 PM, Wednesday, 10 February 10. Charter Standard

Kendal United have notched up another milestone after securing the coveted Charter Standard Community Club status from the Football Association, becoming only the third club in the county to receive the award.

The award recognises Kendal United’s ongoing commitment to providing a high quality football experience for everyone connected with the club.

It is the latest in a series of successes for Kendal United, which unveiled their prestigious new £300,000 changing facilities at Castle Drive, Kendal, earlier this season.

Other club achievements include:
• Sue and Ian Postlethwaite of Kendal United being named as FA Charter Standard volunteers of the year.
• The club’s Under 12s team winning the Westmorland County FA fair play award.
• Kendal United clinching the best run club award from the Kent Valley Junior Football League.

Kendal United chairman Tim Pryor said: “Gaining the FA’s Charter Standard Community Club status is a fantastic achievement and something we are all very proud. The club has come a long way in recent years and we have plans to further build on this success in the future.”

Westmorland County FA executive officer Peter Ducksbury said: “The FA Community Club builds on the foundations of the Charter Standard scheme by placing clubs at the heart of their community, something which Kendal United FC have regularly demonstrated over the past few seasons with the continual growth in membership and team numbers, including the development of their first girls team at under 12s girls for the 2009/10 season.

“Community Clubs, the pinnacle of the club development pathway, are those that have a high quality, multi-team (minimum of 10 teams) set up with excellent social, training and playing opportunities for all. All FA Community Clubs are required to meet FA criteria, ensuring they provide opportunities for players irrespective of age, gender, religion and ability. Clubs must also provide qualified coaches, first aiders and safeguarding officers.

“Becoming an FA Community club should be the ultimate goal for hundreds of clubs at grassroots level. The FA will help you achieve that goal!”
