Westmorland County FA v Liverpool FA on Wednesday 17 March 2010 at Lakeland Radio Stadium, Parkside Road, Kendal
The County’s Under 18 side entertained Liverpool in their final game of the season, with the visitors needing to win to gain promotion.
The visitors were unlucky not to take the lead in the second minute but their goal was disallowed for offside.
However, in the 8th minute they did score with an outstanding 25 yard free kick from Anthony Miley.
The home side were back on terms a minute later when Cameron Stewart headed home a cross from the left despite desperate attempts of goal line clearance. During the next 5 minutes Nathan Dixon could have given Westmorland the lead, firstly beating an offside trap but shooting over the bar and again seeing his shot go over bar on the second occasion.
On 35 minutes Westmorland goalkeeper saved well at point blank range from Danny Hewitt.
Two minutes before half time Aaron Holland chipped opposition keeper only to see his shot go just wide.

In an entertaining second half Dixon again saved well on 67 minutes.
On 73 minutes Liverpool keeper, Sean Isherwood, pulled off a superb double save from Holland and Max Shaw.
But against the run of play it was Liverpool who took the lead on 77 minutes when a cross from the right was headed home by Todd Blayney and as the home side pushed forward for an equaliser he scored again with a couple of minutes remaining.
Home Coach, Mike Graham, was delighted with the team’s performance in their final game of the season, performance which was clearly their best of the season.
