U13 Squad v Barrow

Girls PDP Under 13 Fixture

Westmorland County FA Girls Player Development Programme U13s travelled to Barrow for their first game together this season.

All of the girls put in maximum effort despite the near freezing conditions.

Westmorland had the better of the first third settling quickly and creating a number of good chances. Clara Samson caused the Barrow defence all kinds of trouble with her pace and direct running. Due to some good saves by the Barrow goalkeeper and some unlucky attempts from Westmorland payers the third finished 0-0.

The Westmorland girls came out in the second third and carried on the good play. Once again Westmorland spent the first 5 minutes pushing the opponents back and took the lead through Zoe Dempsey who followed in to tap home after a good save by the Barrow goalkeeper. This goal appeared to spur on the Barrow players as they got a foot hold in the game. After a string of good saves from Bethan Nicholson in the Westmorland goal, Barrow managed to score just before the end of the third and the sides went in level at the break.

Into the final third and the sides were evenly matched. Barrow grabbed a goal on the counter attack midway through the third, this meant Westmorland had to come out and attack as the girls went to a more attacking formation they created more chances and almost scored a late equaliser with a shot that went narrowly wide of the post.

The game was very evenly matched and the girls were unlucky to come away with a loss. Player of the Match was Clara Samson whose attacking runs made life difficult for the Barrow defence all evening.
