Senior Challenge Cup Final
Saturday 27 April 2019
Keswick FC v Kendal County FC
At Kendal Town FC, Parkside Road, Kendal
A first half Connor Walmsley goal sealed the Westmorland County FA Senior Challenge Cup for Kendal County over Keswick FC.
As expected the final between West Lancashire League side Kendal County and Westmorland League Champions Keswick was tight and cagey throughout with limited opportunities for both sides. After an even opening to the game, County struck the first blow as a weak header back to the Keswick goalkeeper was picked up by Walmsley who poked the ball home past the oncoming keeper.
County restricted Keswick to few opportunities in the first half with centre back partnership Selby and Ferguson looking solid throughout. County themselves worked a good opportunity to further their lead but were denied by a smart save from Phillips in the Keswick goal.
In the second half Keswick searched for an equaliser but were finding clear cut chances hard to come by. Selby was lucky not to receive a second yellow card early in the second half after a foul on the edge of the penalty area. Keswick had an opportunity to equalise when top scorer Bannister was sent clear, however he was unable to beat Fiddler in the county goal from a tight angle.
County held firm and frustrated Keswick and managed the game well to see out the victory and lift the Senior Challenge Cup!
