Invitation Trophy Final

Ambleside United v Keswick on Wednesday 17 September 2012 at Cosyseal Stadium, Parkside Road, Kendal

Senior Challenge Cup winners, Ambleside United and Benevolent Trophy / Westmorland League winners Keswick entertained each other in the final of this season’s Invitation Trophy.

The game was very even until Ambleside opened the scoring on 20 minutes through Aaron Helliwell.  But for a good save by Keswick keeper, John Phillips, Zach Clark could have increased their lead five minutes later.

Ambleside took control of the game when Maison McGeechan scored from the penalty spot after Clark had been fouled.

Half-Time:      Ambleside United        2                      Keswick          0

Keswick came back into the game in the second half and got one back on 65 minutes when Jamie Little got onto a through ball.

Ambleside immediately retained their two goal advantage when McGeechan headed home at the back post for his second of the game to make it 3 – 1.

Keswick continued to dominate the game and a long range shot hit the bar could have reduced the deficit, but it was Ambleside who maintained their advantage to take the trophy.
