Two new directors join the Board at Westmorland County FA

Over the past few months we have welcomed two new directors to the organisation. Both Helen Russell and Tris Heaword joined at the start of the season and bring with them a fresh outlook, different perspective and new ideas to help keep moving us forward as a County FA.

Helen and Tris are the first two independently appointed Board of Directors at Westmorland County FA as we move towards achieving the Sport England Code of Governance.

Helen Russell joins us as our new Board Safeguarding Champion. Helen said: “It's a privilege to join the Westmorland County FA Board of Directors. I am passionate about Grassroots football, and along with the great team already in place will champion that everyone is entitled to the same protection with no discrimination. This a responsibility I take very seriously and am proud of the approach the Board has to safeguarding.”

Following a vigorous recruitment process Chair, Peter Ducksbury is delighted to welcome Helen to the Westmorland County FA Board as an Independent Director. Helen brings a wealth of safeguarding experience to the Company from her employment at Cumbria Police and volunteer background within Cricket. Her appointment freshens up the existing Board and clearly shows the company’s commitment to the FA Code of Governance.

Also joining us is Tris Heaword who will lead on EDI in Westmorland. Tris said: “I am delighted to join the Westmorland FA Board of Directors and hope to bring a fresh perspective and commitment to advancing grassroots football in our community. My focus will be on equality and inclusion, ensuring football is an enjoyable experience for everyone in our diverse community.”

Peter Ducksbury is also delighted to welcome Tris to the Westmorland County FA Board as an Independent Director. Tris has had an active involvement in local football and brings a wealth of experience to the Company having worked in the public sector and currently runs his own business. His addition adds a new skillset to the existing board and has already added great value to the organisation.

As well as leading in their specific areas, both Helen and Tris will also contribute to other aspects of the organisation and oversee the strategic leadership of Westmorland County FA, working closely with the CEO and Staff. These appointments signify a period of evolution at board, and we currently have another exciting opportunity to join our Board of Directors as we are recruiting a Health & Wellbeing director.
