Refereeing Support

Westmorland County FA are constantly looking to develop, retain and train referees to support Grassroots football in the local area. The 2022/23 Season saw many successes on and off the Field of play and we would love to share a few of them with you:

Women’s County FA Senior Cup Final

This season we ran the first-ever Women’s Senior Challenge Cup and this was superbly refereed by Will Owen. This is a huge achievement for Will as he became our youngest referee aged 18 to referee an open age county cup final.

Referee Recognition Awards

Hosted at Wembley Stadium, the home of English Football, Westmorland County FA received TWO winners. A huge well done to Alexander Wilson on becoming the “Inspirational Role Model of the Year” and John Higgins for becoming “Referee Volunteer of the year”.

FA Appointments

A huge well done to Peter Rushton, Mark Blamire, David Houldridge, Paul Kettlewell, Chris Dixon and Bernard Law on receiving FA Appointments in the FA Vase, FA Youth Cup and FA Cup.

Match Official of the year

This year's was a very tough year to shortlist, however a huge well done to Abigail Greenwood and Evan Dart on becoming the Match official of the year winner and runner up for Westmorland FA.

Both Evan and Abi refereed in the Westmorland League shortly after turning 16! Well done an inspiration for all young match officials.
