Under 25 League Is Under Way

Wednesday 31st July saw the kick-off of the 2017 WCFA U25 Summer League.

This season has seen the U25 league expand to 7 teams, this includes teams from the Westmorland League, West Lancashire League and College teams competing 11 aside in 50 minute matches. The matches this season will be held at Burneside FC.

The first kick was at 6pm and saw Ibis take on Kendal United. This was a close game with limited chances. The game was decided by Josh Ford who managed to fire the ball home from a tight angle in the second half.

Next up was Kendal County against Milnthorpe Corinthians. This was a hugely entertaining match in which Corinthians took an early lead. Midfielder Regan Coates picked up a bad injury 10 minutes into the game and was taken to hospital. In the second half the goals started to fly in as Connor Walmsley equalised, before a Rory Neale own goal restored Cors’ lead. County were level again when Brody Wallace-Moffatt smashed in a wondrous free kick into the top corner. There was a late winner and with nearly the final kick off the match, county snatched all 3 points as Bailey Carlos fired home.

In the last game of the night saw Endmoor face Appleby. This was a well matched game in which Endmoor were the better team in the first half. Aidan Dent scored from 25 yards with the help of a big deflection past Appleby goalkeeper Bobby Atkinson. Appleby were much better in the second half and James Addison took advantage of a error at the back for Endmoor and cooly slotted home past the keeper. Appleby pushed for a winner but were denied by the final whistle.
